Worship is a central part of the life of First Methodist. To learn more about our worship opportunities, click on the "About Us" tab in the top bar. For worship service times, click on the "Worship" tab, also in the top bar.
We encourage our members and regular guests to not only experience our worship, but to be part of planning and conducting worship. Some of our worship ministry opportunities are:
Acolytes: Youth, generally in the 6th through8th grade, help create sacred, celebratory worship by lighting the candles, processing in and out of the sanctuary with the cross, and assisting as needed with baptism, communion, or other aspects of worship.
Altar Guild: Prepare the Sanctuary for weekly services. The Altar Guild maintains the Altar area, all the Vessels and Appointments, and materials in the pews.
Outreach Communion: Quarterly, teams of two serve the sacrament of Holy Communion to those who due to illness and/or infirmity are unable to receive it at regular services.
Ushers: Welcome the family of God into worship, extending hospitality as needed to maximize the worship experience.
journey@first Team: Plan and conduct the monthly journey@first worship service. Help is needed to design and prepare altar display, set up and clean up the chapel, set up and put away the audio visual system, learn the music in advance, greet, and help lead worship (read scripture, lead prayer, etc.). The service is the third Sunday, 9:00 to 9:45 am.
Wedding Coordinators: Teams of two or three work together to direct a wedding.
Funerals Preparation/Set Up: Minister to those in grief by preparing the sanctuary for funeral services and returning the sanctuary to its original state after the service.
Special Services
Children's Christmas Drama: Provide a special Christmas Eve worship service designed to be meaningful and enjoyable for children of all ages. Everyone who attends is invited to be a part of this informal service. The service includes lots of familiar Christmas carols. Help is needed to make headband costumes and to distribute costumes as people arrive for the service.
Love Feast: Provide a worship service based on the Moravian Love Feast. The music filled service includes the serving of sweet bread and coffee and closes with candlelight.
