A Scholarship Fund was established in 1968 to assist church members with the expense of obtaining a college degree. The fund began with funds from the budget, memorial gifts and a donation from Mrs. Dan Nicholas. An additional gift was received towards the principal from Roy and Lula Goodman in December of 2001 in memory of their son, Larry. A Scholarship Committee, consisting of standing members plus rotating at-large representatives, meets annual during the spring to review applications. The committee will make the awards based on the designated criteria and monies available.
To be eligible to receive a church college scholarship award, one must be a current member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, be enrolled as a senior in high school with at least a 2.0 average GPA. Scholarship money is prioritized for graduating seniors, however if money is available it can be awarded to persons of any age who will be enrolled in an undergraduate program in the coming school year at the discretion of the scholarship committee.
