IRA Required Minimum Distribution Giving
Financial Giving In Retirement

The end of the calendar year may be a good time to consider a Qualified Charitable Distribution (“QCD”), made possible by the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH), and more specifically, the rules and regulations surrounding Required Minimum Distribution from IRA retirement accounts. The process for completing a QCD to support FUMC is relatively straightforward.

Here’s what you need to do:

1.      Contact the church office to give them a heads up and confirm an address to have the check sent to.

2.      Request a distribution form from the institution that administers your IRA. In the QCD section, fill out FUMC’s info. Keep in mind this transaction must be completed by December 31.

3.      The IRA custodian will mail the check directly to FUMC. Upon receipt, FUMC will send you an acknowledgment letter to confirm the date and amount that was received through your QCD.

4.      At tax time, report the charitable distribution on the line for IRA distributions. If the full amount was given as a QCD, write “0” on the taxable amount line. Enter “QCD” on the next line.

There you have it. You’ve blessed your church with a generous gift- one you can make a part of your yearly giving, if you so choose.

Legacy Giving
Financial Giving In Perpetuity

Since 1783, First United Methodist Church of Salisbury has provided a Christian ministry through the generous financial support of its members. The annual operating budget of the Church is underwritten by unrestricted gifts pledged annually to that budget by church members. This operating budget provides salaries and benefits to staff and supports a variety of missions and ministries sponsored by the church. While a Stewardship team undertakes an annual giving campaign in support of the operating budget as well as support for facilities maintenance, the operating budget is set and managed by the Church Finance Committee. All members are urged to support the ministries of the church through gifts to these annual budgets.

We give thanks for all gifts that support the Church's ministry. Above and beyond contributions to the operating budget, we also thank God for legacy gifts, when the funds are invested and subsequently bless the Church in perpetuity.
